Hickory by the Piece
The color of hickory ranges from light- to medium-brown in the heartwood sections to a paler yellow-brown in the sapwood sections. Reddish hues are often seen, and the contrast between heartwood and sapwood can be used for dramatic effect. Among hardwoods native to the United States, hickory is one of the hardest and strongest, even besting white oak and hard maple, on average. These hickory boards are machined S4S: planed to thickness, ripped to width, and cut to length.
