Designed for re-chucking bowls with the bottom side exposed to remove chuck marks, add decoration or to re-shape the bottom of the bowl—fits Rikon Z3 and Z4 lathe chucks, sold separately.
Made for carrying out the final stages of bowl turning, these jaws let you install bowls of various diameters by simply relocating their tapered rubber stoppers and retaining screws. The jaws can be used either in expansion or contraction mode, depending on the shape of the bowl rim. Cole jaws are ideal for making light finishing cuts and sanding, as well as holding partly finished objects for further work. The stoppers are designed to grip without causing damage to the wood.
Rikon Cole Jaw Set Details:
A fast, easy way of re-chucking bowls to make finishing cuts on the bottom side
Holds a wide range of bowl sizes safely by simply relocating rubber stoppers and retaining screws
Other jaws can be attached for more mounting versatility
Fits Rikon Z3 and Z4 chucks, sold separately
Usage Tips:
While cole jaws are typically used in contraction mode, depending on the bowl shape, the jaws can also grip in expansion mode
To ensure the best grip, the bowl rim should have a positive or negative flair, to engage the stoppers securely
Avoid using with straight-sided bowls where the jaw grip will be less effective
Best practice during cutting is to direct the chisel force toward the headstock, not across the face
Intended for light finishing cuts and sanding; not designed to withstand initial stock removal or heavy re-shaping cuts
