Rockler Westport Adirondack Chair Plan with Templates
Constructed from broad, flat planks with extra-wide armrests, the Westport Chair provides comfort, plenty of space for drinks and reading material, and a surprisingly easy build process. Many believe the Westport chair to be the predecessor of the famous Adirondack chair. First marketed in 1903 as the ''Westport Plank Chair,'' it has many of the most well-loved features of the Adirondack: a deep seat, steeply reclined back and extra-wide armrests. However, the wide planks make for fewer parts, fewer cuts and fewer screws to drive at assembly.
The plan includes a full cutting list and six pre-cut full-sized templates that make building as easy as trace, cut and assemble using appropriately sized stock (see "Important," below). Choose from rigid MDF templates for repeated use with guide bushings, or the more affordable cardboard templates, which work well if you're only making one project. Step-by-step instructions and diagrams walk you through the entire construction process.
Features:
Includes six full-sized templates for cutting out the more difficult parts
Choose the MDF template option for repeated template routing with a guide bushing
For bandsawing to the line, or to make your own hardboard templates, choose the cardboard template option
Note: For the easiest possible build, purchase our optional stainless steel hardware pack (#61581, sold separately).
Important: Three of the templated pieces (back, seat and rear legs) will require you to edge-glue stock to create workpieces of sufficient size for the templates.
