Macacauba heartwood varies from vivid reddish orange to deep red-brown, with exquisite bands of soft mocha. When present, the yellowish white sapwood contrasts markedly. Grain is straight, sometimes interlocked, with medium to fine texture and a high natural luster. Sometimes known as orange agate or granadillo, macacauba promises good workability, especially on the lathe.
