Alternating bands of rich brown and dark black give Macassar Ebony a dramatic striped appearance similar to Zebrawood, but with a darker overall tone. It offers the density that ebony is known for without the instability associated with many other ebonies. Though it tends to be difficult to work with some tools, it turns beautifully on the lathe.
