It features a helical-style cutterhead with 26 high speed steel insert cutters that will leave a smooth surface finish on both hardwoods and softwoods as well as wood with tearout-prone figured or interlocked grain. Each insert cutter has two sharp edges that are easy to change or rotate when they dull or get nicked—just loosen, rotate to the remaining sharp edge and retighten. The machine offers two feed speeds, a gauge for checking the depth of each planing pass and a dial for setting up repeat cuts. A four-post motor carriage and large fold-up extension tables help to prevent snipe and provide ample support for planing long, cumbersome boards. Setting the machine for precise cutting is easy, thanks to a top-mounted handle and front thickness scale with hairline indicator. The planer comes with an adapter for connecting to either a 4''-diameter dust collector hose or a 2-1/2''-diameter shop vacuum hose.
