Helpful for the initial setup or occasional adjustment of your lathe, this hardened-steel shaft has a #2 Morse Taper (MT2) on each end. When inserted in the headstock spindle and tailstock quill simultaneously, you'll be able to immediately tell if the components are aligned to the same axis or need adjustment (the gauge won't seat correctly in the spindle and quill). To realign, loosen the bolts that hold the headstock in position and shift it slightly to seat the gauge, then retighten the bolts.
