Mounting smaller bowl blanks doesn't mean you have to use a traditional faceplate. Just clamp one of these sturdy steel woodscrews in your lathe chuck and thread the wood blank onto the screw. Its deep threads are machined right to the end, allowing an easy lead and substantial bite into the wood. The depth of the thread and thick core allow it to handle even larger wood blanks, and its square shank locks positively into the chuck jaws. All this adds up to a powerful gripping action.
