Sycamore Pen Blank

Sycamore is a somewhat under-appreciated domestic species that boasts excellent ray fleck, particularly on quartersawn sections, and is sometimes referred to as ''lacewood'' for this reason. While its interlocked grain can pose problems for planers, it turns beautifully on the lathe. Its sapwood is usually a light tan, while the heartwood is a reddish brown. Texture is fine and even, much like maple. Finishes nicely.
