Made of heavy-duty hardened tool steel, this plate allows you to drive sticks of square-profile wood through its precision-ground holes to create dowels from any species you choose. Because the steel is so hard, its edges stay sharp enough to shear wood fibers cleanly, leaving smooth curved surfaces. Use it to make 13 sizes of imperial dowels from 1/8'' to 5/8''. At almost 5/16'' thick, the steel plate won't bend or flex under the force of mallet blows. Two pre-drilled countersunk holes let you mount the plate over a clearance hole in your workbench or a dedicated jig with #10 flathead screws.
