Working with live edge slabs can yield truly unique projects that showcase swirling continuous grain. But without a very large planer and jointer, flattening and smoothing a rough slab can be very difficult indeed. That's where our Benchtop Board Flattening Jig really shines. Set it up on a flat, level stand measuring at least 25'' x 40'' and set up your slab inside the frame. The precision guide rails, along with the low-friction carriage and trolley let you guide your router over the entirety of the surface, machining it flat and smooth—no need for a big planer or drum sander! Not only that, since you're using a router bit with a shearing action, tear-out during slab flattening is almost completely eliminated, meaning much less sanding.

Benchtop Board Flattening Mill Details:

• Designed to help you rout two flat, parallel faces on workpieces up to 18'' wide x 28'' long and up to 1-3/4'' thick (thicker workpieces are possible if spacers are used)
• Rigid extruded aluminum base rails attach to work surface with included hardware—slots in rails allow fine-tuning to get rails perfectly parallel
• Great for smaller slabs, endgrain cutting boards, resin charcuterie boards and epoxy pours
• Reinforced plastic router carriage with low-friction pads glides on rigid aluminum cross rails for smooth motion
• Safety catches on router sled and trolley latch onto hook profile of rails to prevent lifting during routing
• Clear acrylic router baseplate is pre-drilled for mounting most popular mid-sized routers (see below)
