Building furniture with large slabs can yield truly one-of-a-kind projects that showcase incredibly beautiful grain. But conventional planers and jointers simply won't work when it comes to flattening and smoothing a large slab. That's where our Full-Size Slab Flattening Jig excels. Set it up on a 4' x 8' sheet of plywood and lay your slab down on the bed. The precision guide rails, along with the wheeled carriage and trolley let you guide your router over the entirety of the surface, machining it flat and smooth. Not only that, since you're using a router bit with a shearing action, tear-out is almost completely eliminated, leaving a surface that requires much less sanding.
Full-Size Slab Flattening Mill Details:
Precision rails and smooth-rolling wheels move router carriage across and along the slab with minimal effort, creating a flat, smooth surface
3-1/2'' high extruded aluminum rails are straight and rigid for uniform results—top profile keep the wheels centered for smooth motion
Long rails will flatten a slab up to 78-1/2'' long, while cross rails on trolley will flatten a slab up to 28-1/2'' wide
Wheels have fenders with integral brushes to prevent dust buildup that could cause surface irregularities
Dust boot and port connect to 2-1/2'' dust hose to clear chips—essential when working with slabs!
Router trolley height can be adjusted within a 2'' range with four easy-to-grip knobs—no tools needed!
Trolley incorporates friction pad to reduce side-to-side shifting as you move router carriage across workpiece
Carriage features removable plate for easy mounting of router—plate secures to carriage with four knobs
Removable steel baseplate features hole patterns for many popular routers ranging from midsize to 3.25 HP
Carriage secures to cross rails of trolley with spring-loaded pins so it won't inadvertently lift off
Rubber-coated handle on carriage provides comfortable grip and keeps hands away from cutting area
Adjustable features all have knobs—no other tools are needed
Works for slabs up to 28-1/2'' wide x 78-1/2'' long x 2-3/4'' thick
Use of 1/2'' shank spoilboard bit recommended
Important: To achieve satisfactory results, the Rails of the Full-Size Slab Flattening Jig must be installed on a flat, even surface. A 4' x 8' work surface is required—we recommend using a full sheet of 3/4''-thick plywood.
Baseplate is pre-drilled for the following routers:
Bosch 1617, 1618, 1619-1619EV
