Sycamore is a little-known domestic species with superb ray fleck, particularly on quartersawn sections. It is sometimes referred to as ''lacewood'' for its flake pattern. While its interlocked grain can pose problems for planers, it turns beautifully on the lathe. The sapwood is usually a light tan, while the heartwood is a reddish brown. Texture is fine and even, much like maple. These blanks are dimensioned at 6'' x 6'' x 2'' for small bowls and platters.
