Arbortech SpheroPlane Power Carving Attachment Kit

Arbortech's unique SpheroPlane Carving Attachment can convert your angle grinder or Arbortech Power Carving Unit (#BCS64888, sold separately) into a planing and sanding solution for shaping precise concave or convex surfaces. The system consists of an aluminum cutterhead with two carbide teeth that mounts to the grinder's spindle. The geometry of the cutterhead allows it to cut in any direction. An adjustable guard with a rounded rim fully surrounds the cutterhead. Rotating its collar clockwise raises the guard to expose the cutter, for forming broad, concave curves. Turning the collar counterclockwise lowers the guard to withdraw the cutter for planing convex curves. By adjusting the guard's rim so it is always in contact with the wood, SpheroPlane will make smooth, controlled cuts in a range of radii to shape perfect spheres, shapely bowls, large platters and more. Changing the radius and refining the curve involves small depth adjustments to the guard and making many sweeping passes over and around the workpiece.

Once you've planed your project to shape, just swap the cutterhead for the included flexible sanding pad and hook-and-loop sanding discs to touch up and smooth away planing marks. Adjusting the guard in small amounts prevents over-sanding and burning, in the same incremental and controlled way that it guides the planing process.
