Rikon Variable-Speed Midi Lathe with Z3 Chuck System, 70-1516VSRK, 12'' x 16-1/2''
Whether you're a novice or experienced woodturner, here's a benchtop lathe and chuck combination worth your careful consideration. Powered by a 1.25HP DC brushless motor, the lathe can be set electronically to three speed ranges and adjusted incrementally with a turn of a dial. Spindle speed is reported on a digital display on the magnetic control box, which you can position on the lathe wherever it's easiest to see and reach. A 12'' swing over bed provides plenty of usable clearance for creating bowls and vessels, and almost 17'' of distance between centers lets you turn moderate-length spindles, too. The 6'' PRO Tool Rest is mounted on a 1''-diameter post, for rock-solid tool handling. A cast-iron bed, headstock, tailstock and banjo soak up vibration and add helpful mass, when turning heavier or out-of-balance workpieces. The ends of the bed are machined to accept 13.5'' and 24'' bed extensions (#72077 and #75876, sold separately), to increase the lathe's spindle-turning capabilities.
Rikon includes a Z3 four-jaw scroll chuck with 50mm jaws, a 3''-diameter faceplate and a woodscrew, for attaching blanks with spigots, mortised recesses or by means of threaded holes. The Z3 chuck can be fitted with a wide range of different jaw sizes, as your turning needs change and grow.
